Earth Hour 2011 – SM City Bacolod

On 2010 and 2011, we went to SM City Bacolod to observe Earth Hour. We love spent our time there because the children can see that even big businesses like SM City Supermalls do care in saving the planet too. Aside from that, I also enjoy the program they have. They have songs related to saving our planet and also tips and suggestions on how to save beyond the hour and live a green life.

Just a while ago, we went to SM City Cagayan de Oro to observe Earth Hour 2012. Still, we went as a family. We were quite shock as we are expecting another educational program with entertainment on the side but unfortunately it was more “entertaining” rather than “educational.” Despite the program flow, I am grateful to see that SM City Cagayan de Oro really did their best to pursue the cause. My children were again amazed how a big business turned off most of their lights in observance of the Earth Hour.

Anyway, one of the most amazing facts that I learned is that the Philippines is an official Earth Hour ‘Hero Country’ with a record-breaking 1661 cities and municipalities who switched off their lights last 2011. Making the Philippines a three-time Earth Hour champion since 2009! All I can say is kudos to the Philippine Government, Non-Government Offices, Private Sectors and the entire Filipino citizens who made effort to make this possible!

As for my family, Earth Hour is not just for one hour but a lifetime commitment to save Mother Earth. We will try to live our everyday lives knowing and believing that no matter how small, we can make a difference to make this world a better place.

I have been busy offline too. There are a lot of things that I needed to take care. Besides, I promised myself that I will feature green living ideas and adventures for Green Monday Meme. I want it to be relevant with my blog as possible.

So, for my entry, here it is – a Green Living Tips widget!! Well, this is a WordPress plugin actually. You can install the plugin and add the widget on your sidebar. Then it automatically shows green living tips for your blog visitors to read. Isn’t that cool?!

If you want to grab this, just go plugins > add new > search for “green living tips” by Onur Kocatas then install and activate. Go to appearance > widgets > and then add the widget on your sidebar. Choose vertical or horizontal orientation so that the widget will fit perfectly on your sidebar!

When I was in Bacolod City, I always try to do my best to remember bringing my SM Supermarket Green Bags every time I do my groceries. Aside from earning additional 2 points for my SM Advantage Card, I get to save Mother Earth! Because every time I use my SM Supermarket Green Bags, it means not using plastic bags and we all know that if we don’t use plastic, we make Earth a little greener!!

A few weeks ago, I decided to pursue my advocacy to live a greener life into another level when by turning one of my personal blogs into a green blog. Unfortunately, after several weeks, I felt that my personal blog was not fit into this niche as the contents cater to wide array of things. So, I decided to pursue my green advocacy to a much higher level by getting myself a green hosting servers and installing it here, my new Green Blog – Air Water Earth Fire!!

The name Air Water Earth Fire was inspired by the four elements of nature and of course, the cartoon (and movie) Avatar: The Last Air Bender. Obviously, aside from being a self-proclaimed green advocate, I am also a fan of the cartons (so love the characters!!)

To make the short story much shorter, my tagline “Blog Bending for a Green Tomorrow” literally means I am blogging about things and hosting blogs for a much greener tomorrow not only for us but for our children’s children!!

Since I am a domain lover, I decided to avail of the $1.18 dot COM domain and because I was currently addicted to Avatar: The Last Airbender cartoon series and its movie, I ended up getting this domain – www.airwaterearthfire.com! I was inspired by the four nations (elements).

At first, I was thinking of making this as a health blog because the four elements reminds me of balance thus living a balance life but because of some thoughts expressed by my pinay mommy blogger friends, I decided to make this into a GREEN BLOG.
